I feel miffed. Not quite raging mad but displeased. Definitely thought I would be sadder about five minutes before the end.

I was hoping for Bob Saget as Ted (not just the voiceover) in the last scene.

is what it is, ended how it ended. I feel sated enough and yet not at all. This entire 'season' has just been shitty. They all clearly phoned it in, especially the writers. They should have taken a clue from Friends and gone hard in the paint.

When I saw her sick i started laughing that killed the sad mood for me. It was so dumb, Finally people, here's the moment you've been waiting for! and by the way she dies so forget about her, let's go back to episode 1.

I was expecting video chat, since they didn't have them in the same room for filming :/ (apparently they filmed the kids bits years ago)

That or an Armon Zola type situation...

I feel like they were going to film more of the mother (Blanking on her name, Tracy?), but ran out of time for the 1 hour slot.

I wanted them to kill her off and I just have an ending where I cry, but no they had to have that blue french horn ending and I was just like WTF.

Yeah. Also, what the hell Barney's Baby Momma is just gonna be referred to as 31st? I mean I get the important part is Barney's a father but it felt weird.

And she was so pissed at him that he had to see his daughter for the first time without her? It was all weird.

Kids, this is the story of how, on the day my best friend got engaged, your mother and I started on parallel journeys; mine when I met the woman who became my lover, then my dearest friend, then your aunt, and hers when she lost the man she loved. Our journeys took all the twists and turns of modern life. Career changes, nights at the bar, crazy adventures we should never speak of again, these happened to both of us on the same speck of dirt called Manhattan, sometimes when we were in the very same room.

But even though we were clearly perfect for each other, we couldn't meet; the universe wouldn't let us meet. The universe delayed our introduction until we had grown enough, slain enough of our demons, so that when we did meet, we could stand together without baggage, without emotional distance, without jealousy or second thoughts.

Yes I wish I had met your mother sooner, but like Stella said, she was running towards me as fast as she could, and I to her. The fact that I met her on the very weekend she found closure with her fiance Mike and I found closure with your Aunt Robin shows that we meet as soon as we possibly could. Even though I secretly wished, at the naive age of 25, that it was me showing Marshall my proposal idea, I, and your mother, were eight years of growth away from each other despite being only a few booths apart. As much as I wish I could have spent those eight years with her, I would happy wait those eight years again to ensure your mother would become my happily ever after and not just a stepping stone to my personal growth, and me just a stepping stone to hers. That, kids, is destiny.

Now enough about her, how do you kids feel about me barking up Robin's tree yet again?

"Hey, we have this 17-year story arch all planned out. Let's have the wedding take 22 episodes and we'll back the rest of the 17 years in the finale!"

I was expecting a kick-ass cameo as Number 31, too. Someone like Jennifer Lawrence or Cameron Diaz.

Olivia Wilde. It would be funny to see her promoted from #13 to #31.

One less character introduction in a 1 hour time slot.

I liked it! The writers (and I) never really cared about or wanted Robin/Barney but were forced to it by the fans. I've seen it happenening before and almost always it ruined the show for me (think Klaine on Glee or Mulder/Scully on X-Files) so I looked at this finale not like on an episode but on a skillful, almost artful act of trollage. Maybe I would have been more upset if I cared about The Mother or Ted, or Ted/Mother but I didn't, not for a second and not even a little. The only ship on this show that mattered anyway was Lily/Marshall and that's that.

See, that would have been perfect without the bit of snark at the end where you mock a man coming out of the doldrums and taking a second chance at love. Aside from that, a lovely description of what happened in a nice, lovely, messy finale.

So... What happened exactly? I never really watched it, but I'm familiar enough, and there's been so much talk about it, to make me genuinely curious...

Ted married the mother, but the whole series was about how ted still had a crush on Robin, not how he met your mother

So he goes and gets back together with Robin a few years after the mother dies.

The last episode could also have been better.

There's a big difference between wanting a second chance at love and finding the woman who you quite literally spent 8 years getting over in order to be the man worthy of your first wife.

So, basically, everything got undone in the end, and they went back to the start? And killed off the mother they spent the last 9 years talking about? Well, if I were one of the kids I'd be royally pissed right now....
